1.  Learn to know the difference between costal and diaphramitic breathing.

2. Slow down!  Relax.  Allow yourself to ease into the exercise.

3. Utilize these techniques as daily practice or in times of distress to bring a measure of relief.

Summary Proper breathing is one of the most effective means of stress management.  Slow rythmic diaphramatic breathing is characteristic of calmness and a sense of wellbeing as opposed to costal breathing, or panting, which is characteristic of panic and fear.  These breathing exercises if perfomed with regularity can greatly enhance one's overall wellness.
